Nova Scotians will see more high-quality job opportunities in the defence and aerospace sector.
The province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), has authorized a five-year payroll rebate set at a maximum of $2.9 million to assist the growth of General Dynamics Canada.
The company is a leading developer of electronic systems for military command and control and will create up to 165 new jobs. A new four-storey facility is being built in Dartmouth and will house systems integration and software support for its various programs.
"The defence and aerospace sector is a strategic growth sector for Nova Scotia," said Economic Development Minister Richard Hurlburt. "Investments in this vital industry will continue to generate sustainable economic growth for the province."
General Dynamics Canada was established in 1948 and has been named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers since 2003.
"General Dynamics Canada is pleased to be part of a thriving defence and aerospace sector in Nova Scotia," said John Watts, president of General Dynamics Canada. "This facility and the new jobs will assist us in moving forward with our growth plans."
The Conference Board of Canada recently identified the defence and aerospace sector as a key player in Halifax's overall economic growth.
"This expansion is another big win for Nova Scotia's defence and aerospace sector," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI. "It demonstrates the continued efforts of our clients to attract the right talent to Nova Scotia by offering high quality and highly competitive job opportunities."
