Export successes recognized

HALIFAX (Feb. 1, 2002) — Nova Scotia’s export companies have proven they have the skills and dedication to succeed, and now it’s time to recognize their efforts.
A call for submissions has gone out for the 18th annual Export Achievement Awards. The awards, presented by Nova Scotia Business Inc. with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, Nova Scotia division, will honour outstanding contributions made by Nova Scotia exporters, large and small, to the provincial economy during 2001.
Last year, Nova Scotia companies exported goods valued at more than $5 billion, an increase of 27.9 per cent over the previous year.
“Exports are important to the growth of our economy and for generating new wealth for Nova Scotians, so it’s appropriate that we recognize this success and the companies that have a big hand in it,” said Stephen Lund, President and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc. “Our job now is to build on this growth, work to increase the number of exporters and the level and diversity of what they export.”
Winners of this year’s awards will be featured in promotional brochures, ads and videos and on several websites. They will also receive an award logo for use on their letterhead and a unique handcrafted award to display. Past winners have included Mermaid Theatre and customer-care provider Convergys.
The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28. The awards ceremony will take place at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax on May 23. Interested companies can apply online at www.novascotiabusiness.com/exportawards , or contact Pamela Rudolph at 902-424-6042, email@example.com , for an application form.
“By supporting and highlighting trade successes through activities like the Export Achievement Awards, Nova Scotia Business Inc. is encouraging more companies to look to markets abroad to grow their business,” said Lund. “Our trade team works with companies to help identify markets for their products and services. We make a point of helping them connect with the right people."
