Nova Scotia Business Inc., in partnership with ACOA and Nava Marketing, is offering a series of online workshops "Trailblazing Growth in a Shifting Economy" to build upon the momentum achieved through the previous training sessions and provide further guidance and support on leadership and strategy.

The workshop series consists of three parts:

Part 1: Designing a Strategy for the Changing Global Economy
Tuesday, July 21, 2020
10 am – 11:30 am

Strategy is often considered a luxury that only large companies consider. In this highly engaging workshop, companies will be encouraged to recognize the value of strategic thinking and how it can have an influence on their success. The model used in this workshop defines strategy as the identification and defence of a company’s most valuable competitive position. This, in turn, is where the opportunities, capabilities, and values of a business intersect.

During this crisis, it is more important than ever for companies to re-examine and re-assert their values. They need to use STEEPL analysis to look at the opportunities that are currently available to them and how they can rank and re-rank those opportunities in light of recent developments.

Opportunities can be successfully exploited only if we have a clear understanding of the capabilities needed to bring those opportunities to fruition. During the workshop, we will look at the capabilities that companies can develop, and the ones they can exploit.

By the end of this workshop, companies will have a much clearer sense of where their competitive advantage lies and will understand how the current crisis might change that advantage. They will then be able to lead their organizations towards pursuing this well thought out strategy.

Part 2: Reshaping Your Business Model
Friday, July 24, 2020
10 am – 12:00 pm

This workshop would work through all of the different building blocks of a business model and invite participants to think through which business model elements need revisiting and whether they are set up with the right business model to succeed in implementing the strategy they have embarked upon in Part 1 workshop related to Strategy.

We see successful strategy leadership being a multi-step approach. You begin with a selection of a strategy, then look at the structure that must be successful in the pursuit of that strategy. Also, you need to ensure that an organization has the right skills and leadership to implement that strategy. Another way to frame this is to think of implementation using the OST framework: what is the Objective; what is the strategy to achieve that objective, and, what are the Tactics we will deploy to implement the strategy

Part 3: Succeeding as a Leader in Your New Business Reality
Week of July 27, 2020

30-minute one-on-one coaching sessions

Part 3 will be delivered as a one-to-one session and will last for 30 minutes each. In this part, we will work with the companies to think through the skills they need to implement the Strategy, the Business Model and the Tactics needed to be deployed, and how they may need to adjust their Leadership style. This is more like a coaching session, ensuring the attendees of the previous two parts have personalized, tailored plans, as well as the confidence to put into effect concepts around Leadership and Strategy that they have learned and have found to resonate.
