Q: How did you get your start in Nova Scotia?
A: We knew that the seafood in our region was great quality. When we took that into consideration, and looked at the market, we thought it would be a great export opportunity.
Q: What will be the key to your success going forward?
A: Being the best at what we do. We strive to be consistent with production, quality and innovative products for the global markets.
Q: What is the best advice for new exporters?
A: Be aware of logistic challenges and be persistent in building your reputation. A bad reputation in an international market is not something you can easily fix. It is also important to be able to adapt to changes at home and in market.
Q: How did you know exporting was right for you?
A: Local markets could not support my dream, so I sought out larger markets that offered better profit margins. Like anything else in business, it was important to spread the risk as we gain more market share.
Q: What is the best thing about being an exporter in Nova Scotia?
A: Surrounded by excellent seafood that many enjoy globally, but most importantly, the effect it has on my community.
Q: What is next for your business?
A: New investments, new markets and innovative products are just some of the future endeavours on our agenda.
